Britannia Anchor Removals have slammed the Budget as unhelpful for business growth.
Chris Smallwood MD of Britannia Anchor Removals The decision to raise the duty on fuel in August is unhelpful at best for our industry and many others. It will have an inflationary effect on all transport companies, we are already working on tight margins, whilst trying to protect our overall turnover and growth strategy. This has the potential to kill our profits altogether!†However, the rise in the tax allowance was welcomed I am pleased that my staff who are some of the lowest paid will get a much better return for their hard work. The tax allowance will give them £9000 tax free earnings and this can only be good for them. But as always, what the government gives with one hand they take away with the other. The fuel duty rise will probably mean that our hard working staff (including the management team), who have made tremendous sacrifices throughout this recessionary period will probably have to do without a wage rise again this year because our margins are so tight. Not to mention the cost of food will rise as transport companies try to cover the extra fuel costs for delivery of the foods and goods to the supermarkets
Chris also condemned the reduction in the higher rate of tax to hit the poorest in the way the government have is bad enough, but what adds insult to injury is the fact that the richest 1% will receive a tax bonus of a reduction. It is hard to see how any government can justify this when we are still all clearly struggling, you would think that the good times are back! He added The mansion tax is a pathetic attempt to try and show that the government are going after the richest people, it is a nonsense. The stamp duty should be paid on all properties over £1 million, and there should be a luxury car / environmental tax of 50% for all cars over a value of £50,000 or that are environmentally unfriendly, like large 4 x 4 vehicles. We see wealthy people still buying Bentleys, Aston martin and other high value vehicles at the same price we pay for our Toyota Yaris!
